Post-Natal Wellness Programs
Based on our in-home outcome studies, data indicates a majority of women have positive results within 3 visits. At Body Awareness, we have developed a 3-visit program designed to address the needs of the post-natal patient. However, if it is determined by the therapist that the patient would benefit from continued physical therapy, the patient and physical therapist work collectively to determine a feasible treatment plan to meet each woman's individual goals. The initial evaluation, recommendations, and goals are communicated to the physician in the written plan of care.
What Our Post-Natal Wellness Programs Consists Of:
- A comprehensive evaluation and written plan of care.
- Hands on treatment to address pain and dysfunction in order to normalize mechanics.
- Education in proper body mechanics and postural alignment.
- Neuromuscular re-education for proper recruitment of the pelvic floor (Kegal's) and abdominal muscles.
- A home exercise program designed to meet individual needs.
Goals of Our Post-Natal Wellness Programs:
- Our patients will be able to demonstrate proper body mechanics for lifting, bending, squatting, and breastfeeding.
- Our patients will be able to perform a Kegal properly in supine, standing, sitting, and with activities.
- Our patients will be able to demonstrate proper abdominal strengthening exercises to promote stability of her core muscles.
- Our patients will demonstrate understanding of the importance of continued self maintenance to counteract the excessive forward bending position involved in childcare.
- Our patients will gain a source of information and support regarding their changing body and the physical demands of childcare.
We have developed 3 different programs to meet the needs of our new moms:
3-Visit Post-Natal Wellness Check-Up
This 3-visit wellness check is geared toward education and prevention of injury and regaining full function after delivery. A comprehensive evaluation is completed by one of our licensed physical therapist specializing in postnatal. Our goal is to spot any potential muscle, postural, or alignment imbalances in the early phases so that they do not progress into dysfunction that will limit activities of daily living. Focus is on proper abdominal recruitment, education of posture, body mechanics, and exercises specific to your needs. It is a perfect way to utilize our knowledge to ask questions, problem solve, and address any concerns you may have. Sessions can be clustered or spread out over a period of time depending on your needs. Your insurance may cover the cost if you have a referral slip from your OB/GYN.
Post-Natal Wellness Program
This program is for those who may need more than 3-sessions to resolve pain and dysfunction. A comprehensive treatment plan is developed by one of our licensed physical therapists trained in women's health during an initial evaluation. Hands on treatment are required in order to address pain and dysfunction. Incorporation of postural and strengthening exercises is also included within each session to ensure return to one's activities of daily living along with the added physical and postural stress of caring for a newborn. Your insurance may cover the cost if you have a referral slip from your OB/GYN. 8, 12, and 20 session cash rate packages are available.
Post-Natal Fitness Program
This program is focused on getting the body back in shape. Once you have been cleared by your physician to start physical activity, one of our licensed physical therapists will perform an initial evaluation to determine imbalances in muscle strength and function. A fitness program will be developed based on your needs and goals. A licensed physical therapist will continually monitor your program and adjust your exercises as appropriate. This program is exercised based and does not include hands on treatment. 8, 12, and 20 session cash rate packages are available.
